Didier Drogba Says Phoenix Rising on the Verge of an Amazing Journey

Former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba recently began the next adventure in his career after joining Phoenix Rising FC, as a player-owner.

Even though he has signed a two-year contract to play at the club, Drogba will eventually own the club. Phoenix Rising are looking to be part of the MLS in the near future, and Drogba believes that he chose the Phoenix Rising offer since it was unparalleled amongst the plethora that he received after leaving Montreal Impact at the end of the 2016 MLS season. The 39-year-old striker is the player, ambassador, and owner of the club.

He says that Phoenix Rising can be part of a great ride over the next few years, as they could potentially be playing against the likes of Seattle Sounders and LA Galaxy in the MLS. While this would require significant investment, Drogba is prepared to do the same in order to benefit the club.

Phoenix Governor BerkeBakay said that the club cannot be more lucky, as they are in a great phase where they will produce significant improvement over the next few years. As Drogba will continue to play in the next two years,Bakay says that it would benefit the team given that the former Chelsea striker is one of the best forwards of his generation.

“This is the beginning of an amazing journey. This is the beginning of something very important for me and I hope we are going to be together for a long time. We’re going to win a lot of games here.[It’s a] great feeling to be here with the team. I think if there wasn’t this opportunity to go to the MLS, I would still be here to help the club and the city to get to the MLS. This one is a great challenge and I’m really proud to be a part of it,” said Drogba.
