Ian Wright Claims This Chelsea Forward as the Best Ever

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has named his Chelsea compatriot Didier Drogba as one of the best strikers in the Premier League history.

Drogba is widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers in the history of the club, while this is especially true when it comes to the whole Premier league, according toWright. Drogba came to Chelsea in the summer of 2004 as an unpolished diamond. However, he was transformed into one of the best strikers in the world by Jose Mourinho. In the period between 2005 and 2007, Drogba was simply unplayable in every game.

Later, Drogba developed the knack of scoring goals in key games. During his time in the Chelsea, he scored in several finals and semifinals – most notably in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.Wright says that Drogba may not possess the all-time scoring record in the Premier League, but he is not short of being considered as one of the best ever.

Even though he says that Diego Costa would also be classified as a top striker, he is still far away from the legendary status of Drogba. The Ivory Coast international spent almost 8 years at the club, while he scored 164 goals in 180 appearances in this period.

Former Newcastle and Blackburn striker Alan Shearer holds the record for the most number of Premier League goals.“I think [Diego]Costa is brilliant but he’s not better than Didier Drogba. Drogba’s the best no 9 I’ve seen playing up front on his own. I’d say one of the best [players in Premier League history].In terms of big players, big moments, big goals in cup finals, Drogba is right up there,” said Wright. Drogba was a man for the big occasion, but Costa is so far turning out into a player for domestic successes.
